Autumn Walk in Eynsford: Castles, Pubs, and Countryside Bliss

Image
Nestled in the picturesque Darent Valley, Eynsford is a charming village that comes alive during autumn. The crisp air, golden leaves, and tranquil atmosphere make it the perfect destination for a countryside walk. This scenic route will take you through history, along the peaceful river, and into the heart of Kent's countryside.   Start at Eynsford Castle I began my walk at the historic Eynsford Castle, an impressive Norman ruin that dates back to the 11th century. Though partially in ruins, its imposing stone walls and gatehouse evoke a sense of medieval life. This is one of the earliest Norman stone fortifications in England, and the peaceful grounds around it are ideal for a quiet start to your journey.   As I walked around the castle, the view of the village and surrounding hills begins to open up, setting the scene for a truly picturesque experience.   A Riverside Stroll and Cosy Pub Leaving the castle behind, I made my way along the footpath that follows th...

Dawn Trek: Hastings to Rye

Image
I started my hike from Hastings Old Town, with its quaint cobbled streets fading behind me as I ascended toward the cliff tops. The world seemed asleep, and I could feel the thrill of being one of the first to set foot on the path as I set out on my adventure. The air was crisp, with the promise of a beautiful day hidden just behind the veil of fog. The early morning mist made everything feel surreal, like stepping into a forgotten corner of England. As I climbed, the sea was hidden beneath a blanket of white, and the only sound was the rhythmic crunch of my boots on the path. It was peaceful. By the time I reached the first summit , the sun began to emerge from the mist. Below me, the sea sparkled in the distance, and the mist dissipated, revealing the rugged beauty of the coastline. I just had to have a little break there, just to stop, have a sip of water and admire the view. The cliffs themselves are dramatic—towering chalk faces that drop into the sea, with views stretching for...

Edge of Europe:from St.Vincent Cape to Sagres,Portugal

Image
If there’s one place on Earth where nature shows off its power and beauty, it’s  St.Vincent Cape in Portugal. Perched on the southwestern most point of Europe, this rugged cape offers a dramatic collision of land and sea that feels almost mystical. The moment you step onto the cliffs, you are greeted by a breathtaking contrast—the Atlantic Ocean on one side is wild and turbulent, while on the other, it stretches out calmly, as if in a different world. But be warned—no matter how hot the day, the winds at Cape St. Vincent can be fierce. Even in 30-degree Celsius heat, you’ll want a hoodie to shield yourself from the relentless winds. I recently embarked on a hiking adventure from  St.Vincent Cape to the nearby town of Sagres, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. You have two options when planning this hike: a straightforward path or the more challenging, yet infinitely more rewarding, cliffside route. I chose the latter, and it’s safe to say that it was one of th...

How I Fell in Love with Portugal’s Algarve Coast

Image
The sun was just beginning to rise as I set out on a trail that promised more than just breathtaking views—it was an experience that would etch itself into my memory forever. Carvoeiro, nestled in the heart of Portugal’s Algarve, is known for its stunning cliffs, rich history, and the mesmerising shades of blue that paint the ocean. This place isn't just a destination; it’s a feast for the senses, and it’s where I found myself falling deeply in love with everything Portuguese. The Majestic Cliffs and Their Stories Walking along the cliffs of Carvoeiro, you can't help but feel the weight of history beneath your feet. The rugged coastline, with its dramatic drop-offs and hidden coves, tells stories of centuries past. As the waves crash against the rocks below, it’s easy to imagine ancient explorers and fishermen who once relied on these same waters. Each curve and crevice in the cliffs seems to hold a secret, waiting to be discovered by those who venture along the paths. These cl...

Beachy Head: Hiking the Seven Sisters Trail

Image
The Seven Sisters Trail is a breathtaking coastal path along the South Downs in England, known for its rolling chalk cliffs and stunning seascapes. One of the most famous and dramatic points along this trail is Beachy Head, the highest chalk sea cliff in Britain. Its stark beauty hides dark history, as Beachy Head has long been a place where people tragically take their own lives. The cliff's dark reputation as a site of suicides contrasts with the natural beauty that surrounds it, making it a place of both reflection and awe. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about starting your day with such an adventure, especially in a place as stunning as the Seven Sisters Trail. It’s a journey of physical endurance, but also one of mental clarity, as you find yourself surrounded by nothing but the raw beauty of nature.   I began my hike early in the morning, starting from the charming town of Eastbourne. It was around 7:45AM, with the sun just fully rise over the calm sea. ...

Stunning Jurassic Coast: Enjoying My first road trip with teenage kids

Image
The Jurassic Coast is truly a breathtaking place, where history and nature come together to create one of the most stunning coastal landscapes in the UK. This UNESCO World Heritage site stretches for 95 miles along the southern coast of England, revealing 185 million years of Earth's history.    For our adventure, we decided to park at Lulworth Cove, a picturesque spot that serves as an ideal starting point. The parking fee might seem steep at £20 for the day, but trust me, it's worth every penny. The convenience of being right next to such incredible scenery makes it a no-brainer.   We began our day with a hearty breakfast at a café right by the cove. Yes, the prices were a bit on the commercial side, but the view of the cove while sipping coffee was priceless-ABSOLUTELY!. If you’re on a budget or just prefer a quieter start, packing your own breakfast and setting up on the beach is a great alternative—especially if you're traveling with teenagers whose appetites...

Image
Picture this: you're standing on top of the hill, the wind tousling your hair, a breathtaking panorama before you. Sounds dreamy, right? Welcome to the Malvern Hills—where history meets hilarity and every hiker's misstep is just another tale to tell. If you're look ing for an adv enture that blends stunning scenery with a dash of unexpected events , this is the place to be.   This time my journey began at the Clock Tower car park on North Malvern Road. Armed with sturdy hiking boots (a must, trust me),few layers of clothes I set off with the enthusiasm and curiosity .Weather forecast was as reliable as a weather-vane in a tornado, promising everything from drizzle to tropical sunshine. But hey-ho, with a mix of excitement and trepidation, I embarked on the literally “up and down, up and down” hike route.   As I ascended the first summit, the panorama was simply gorgeous. From the highest points, I could see the Severn Valley, the hills of Herefordshire, and e...
